“Tour of Asia”
by ASA of UCF
October 21, 2007
This year has been my third year to
attend ASA’s Tour of Asia cultural show. As
always,
these talented
and creative students
continuously brought us a show filled with
laughter
and applauds which attracted several
hundreds audiences that night.
Among more than 10 different cultural
performances,
Taiko Drumming, led by
Takemasa
and Dragon Legend Acrobatic Performance,
led by Hsien-Mei Chen
and Jim
Ching got the most applauds. The students
were given valuable experience to work
with
real professional performers. The show also
featured Vovinam Vietnamese Martial Arts in
Orlando
with more than 30 young students.
Besides, variety dances with origins in Thailand,
Korea, Philippines
and China were
also presented by different student groups.
I was particularly pleased to watch
the Dance
Groups representing Korea and China as
both of the dances were mixed
with modern
hip-hop which gave the audiences fusion
experience.
The Asian Student Association,
founded
in 2000 is a non-profit organization at UCF.
Its goal is
to provide a social and academic
support network for the Asian American
community at UCF
and spread awareness
of the cultures that make up
the fast growing
demographic and promote diversity. More
importantly, thru different variety shows,
the
organization offers the audience chances
to
better understand the different Asian
cultures.
