Asian Pacific American Coalition at UCF
presented the Student Assembly - “Open Your Eyes”
August 24, 2007
This 3-hour show featured some very unique performances
by the Student Organizations such as ASA (Asian Student
Association), VASA (Vietnamese American Student Association),
FSA (Filipino Student Association), KSA (Korean Student
Association), CASA (Chinese American Student Association),
and Delta Phi Lambda. Over 350 students attended
this year
including students from University of Florida, Florida State
University
and University of South Florida. The goals of APAC
(Asian Pacifi c American Coalition)
are to increase students’
involvement in campus and to represent the needs and voice
of APA students. They also focus on leadership, community
empowerment and unity.
Beau Sia, a Chinese Filipino American national slam poet,
was invited to be
the guest speaker. His outspoken speech
involved cultural identity and stereotypes,
earned audience’s
applause.
I have been attending different Asian Student variety shows
during the past two years.
Their creativity always impressed
me. I would strongly recommend whoever appreciates
Asian Culture to attend some of their shows. Please visit
www.apac.ucf.edu for the events scheduled for the rest of the
year.
